Tanzania
Local authorities in Tanzania said on Sunday that the death toll from a 5.7 magnitude earthquake that struck on Saturday has risen to 14 people while 200 others were injured.
Over 250 houses and telecommunications lines were destroyed in the worst-hit town of Bukoba, close to the epicentre of the quake.
The earthquake which struck at 15h27 local time was felt in some parts of the larger east Africa; Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.
East Africa’s Great Rift Valley runs along a geological fault line but earthquakes are rare.
Tanzania’s Prime minister, Kassim Majaliwa, was expected to join mourners gathered at the Bukoba stadium on Sunday.
